5 years ago I fell 22 ft while scouting.  I was climbing a healthy pine tree without a harness; 28 years young and invincible. I was standing on a large branch with my arms around the tree trunk looking for a good place to set up when I plummeted to the ground.  The branch sheered from the trunk, I fell backwards at 22 feet.  As I was falling; I realized my only option was to tuck and roll as my head broke through the bottom branches about 5 feet from the ground.  In the aftermath, I was able to tuck'n roll without injury but quite shaken from the experience.  I always keep my cell phone in a chest pocket for easy access just in case I needed it fast; I pulled the phone and speed dialed my closest friend before even moving from the ground.
 
A little older now with a wife, 18 month old son and another due September of this year; my wife bought me a Muddy SafeGuard Harness.  Know to her, I often had put myself in dangerous situations in tough to-get-to areas far from home.  Last Saturday, June 2, 2012 I returned to the same area to retrieve 4 stands, one of which had been unused for 2 years and it was time to cut the straps to get it down.  I connected my lineman's rope and went to work with boths hands free! 
 
This time I had my new Muddy SafeGuard and the lineman's rope.  This was not the first time I've used a harness, but the first time I've used a Muddy SafeGuard and the first time with a lineman's rope system.  I can say that I'll never go back into a tree without either one; even at 30 feet in the air, I felt safe and secure.  This particular stand, 30 feet up scares the heck out of me each time I go in; daylight or not.........because it is a dangerous situation but has been very productive......that is my justification, productivity.  Many hunters know, that if it's a productive stand you can tolerate the fear for the opportunity to kill a big deer.
